PPC's Toolkit
Early Childhood Education
Talking points
- Quality early childhood education produces quick results.
Kids do better in school, so schools do better.
- Kids who start behind stay behind. When they miss learning
opportunities, especially at a young age, children fall short
of their potential.
- Quality education rivals the economy as a top priority for
Pennsylvanians. Children need the means to reach their full
potential, and our state's future economic vitality is inseparable
from our efforts to improve education today.
- Communities know what they need. The prekindergarten initiative
would energize community efforts with state support. It's a
solution that helps communities grow.
- Pennsylvania remains one of nine states that fail to invest
in prekindergarten.. The state also does not fund full-day kindergarten
or small class sizes. In fact, the state has no class-size policy
at all, so many children are in excessively sized classes.
- Pennsylvania's leaders and citizens must look to the future
with smart investments in children. We can't let another generation of children slip away.
- Prekindergarten should be integral to the community's education
efforts, not a competitor or an afterthought. When it's done
right, with community planning and coordination, prekindergarten
levels the educational playing field, helping every child start
school ready to learn.
- Quality prekindergarten helps to make parents full partners
in their children's education. Established at that critical
stage, the education involvement habit can stay with parents
for life.
- Accountability for the education dollar boils down to spending
money wisely and well. With quality early childhood education,
schools save money in later interventions, and children succeed.
That's what accountability is all about.
