Indicator Definitions and Sources:
Idle Youth: The idle youth indicator is a combination of two sets of Census data: those youth who are “unemployed,” defined as youth “not currently employed but have looked for a job within the last four weeks” and those youth who are “not in the labor force,” defined as youth who have not made any attempt to find work. For purposes within this report, “idle youth” also means “not employed and not enrolled in school.”

SuperPUMA Regions: PUMA (Public Use Microdata Area) and SUPERPUMA geographic areas are the smallest demarcation that Census data allows for analysis. They comprise geographic areas with populations of approximately 200,000 and 400,000, respectively. While some are entire counties, others are comprised of parts of counties, or several counties put together, depending on population size.
